If it is a real problem on board high speed trains such as the TGV, it is the quality of phone calls with mobile devices. Who has never ranted when his calls when they end (which is a miracle), are very poor and do not take more than a few seconds?

Expert in solutions for complements mobile phone coverage in indoor and outdoor environment since 1995, SELECOM has designed the solution Long Cell™ GSM / UMTS 900, patented as No. EP2209230.

The idea is to connect a BTS and Node B to OMU (Optical Master Unit), to convert the RF signal into optical signal, to send to an optical fiber along the railway to the remote sites. Each remote site has a repeater which converts the optical signal into the RF signal, and is synchronized with the other repeaters with a remote digital delay line. We obtain an artificial cell 40 km long with only 1 BTS, 1 Node B, and up to 7 repeaters.

ORANGE™ France was the first operator to have confidence in this technology and has deployed in autumn 2011 11 Long Cell™, 11 BTS, 11 NodeB and 65 repeaters to cover 135 km of track LGV between Dijon and Mulhouse (France).

The results measured by ORANGE™ and ARCEP (French Regulatory) show that the quality of service (QoS) in GSM 900 is now 100% on this section and it becomes more chaotic when you leave the area covered by the Long Cell™.

Each Long Cell™ is remotely monitored with the server VisiOmc™, developed by SELECOM, through SNMP and HTTP via GPRS, using a SIM card M2M (Machine-to-Machine).

With this solution, travelers can now enjoy their mobile phone while traveling more than 320 km / h!
